Ecology is a term the professor uses to provide a framework for the different disciplines in the humanities such as history, Literature, Art, and Philosophy. 

What he means by this is that these disciplines operate like their own ecosystems. 

So for this assignment you want to go back and get a handle on the profs definition of Humanities and its relation to human experience and then talk about how Literature, History, Art or Philosophy operates to illuminate human experience
